Parengtar promotes Community-based tourism by creatively offering authentic and sustainable solutions for preserving its rural heritage. Their zero-waste model village for tourism and sustainability that supports responsible tourism practices and empowers local communities. Parengtar Nawlo Umanga Welfare Society was established in 2021 to mobilise the community for the holistic welfare and healing of the village through sustainable livelihood initiatives.
Guests can experience Parengtarβs unique festivals: the Asaar Pandhra Festival in June/July, celebrating rice paddy planting, and the Kholeydai Harvest Festival in November/December, celebrating the rice harvest. These lively festivals offer an immersive glimpse into rural life in the Eastern Himalayas. Enjoy culinary experiences, village walks with locals, and learn indigenous craftsmanship from Narbahadur Chamling Rai, one of the last craftsmen of the Nepali Madal, practicing for nearly 60 years.
