Inspiring People

Yin Yin "Fiona" Aung is the award-winning visionary entrepreneur who left her previous job as a bank teller to build the first social enterprise hostel in Myanmar (Burma).

Incredible Place

Nyaung Shwe is the gateway to the floating villages of Inle Lake, a little harbor town surrounded by the idyllic Shan hills. Taunggyi, the capital of Shan State, is 75-90 minutes by car. Heho Airport is 45-60 minutes by car.

Impactful Planet

Fiona designed a bespoke Inle Lake boat tour exclusively for Song of Travel guests, with 90% of proceeds benefiting the local Inthar boat drivers and their families.

This is the meeting place where solo travelers meet, share stories, and exchange itineraries.

How your stay nurtures a more positively impactful planet.

Home-cooked lunch on the Song of Travel bespoke Inle Lake boat tours.

Fiona and her culinary team work on sourcing over 75% of their ingredients locally and making what they cannot find from scratch in-house.

Unlike others, Fiona offers full pay, free housing and board, free English lessons, and includes all of her front desk and back-of-house teams in a pooled bonus program.

Fiona donates over 1% of her top-line revenue to support the local hospitality, orphanage, and other worthy causes in Nyaung Shwe, offering select guests a chance to stay long-term and support directly.

The Song of Travel Bespoke Inle Lake Boat Tours are a celebrated social impact program. Fiona partners with carefully-chosen Intha people who lead an exclusive all-day experience on Inle Lake, including a home-cooked lunch by the wives of the boat drivers in the floating villages dotting the lake. 90% of proceeds benefit the Intha families directly.
